FAQs : About the Windsor Leadership Trust What is the Windsor Leadership Trust and what do you do? We are a registered charity that aims to develop top leaders across all sectors of society, including corporate, government, not-for-profit, military and religious, through an annual portfolio of programmes and consultations, held at St George’s House, Windsor Castle.
Our programmes are aimed at those already in positions of strategic leadership and those having significant senior leadership potential. They provide an opportunity for leaders to learn from one another, and focus on the impact they might have on their organisations, and wider society, as their leadership responsibilities increase.
Why and when were you founded? We were launched in 1995 as the need for exceptional leadership in society was becoming increasingly important. The organisation evolved from a series of ‘Windsor Meetings’ run by St George’s House and initiated by Professor Charles Handy and the Right Reverend Michael Mann, under the guidance of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, in 1981.
Are you a religious organisation, given you are linked with St George’s House and the Chapel? No, we are not a religious organisation. We welcome people from all denominations to participate in our programmes. Our link with St George’s House comes from our evolution from the first ‘Windsor Meetings’, and this unique venue provides the ideal environment for the reflective nature of our programmes.
What’s the connection with Windsor Castle, does it mean the Royal Family are involved and do they fund you? Our link with Windsor Castle is through our origins in St George’s House. We have received formal permission from the Royal family for the use of 'Windsor' in our title. However, we have no formal connection with the Royal Family, although we are grateful for royal support at some of our events, in particular from HRH The Princess Royal. We receive no funding from the Royal Family. We are a registered charity and rely on the support of our Partner organisations to deliver our objectives.
